Biography
Dr. Tim Devitt, Psy.D., MS.Ed., LCPC, CADC is a licensed clinical professional counselor and certified alcohol and drug counselor in private practice. He has a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Dayton. He has committed the past 35 + years to the study, research and practice of therapy for people experiencing mental health and substance use conditions.
In addition to his private practice work, Tim provides consultation to substance use and mental health treatment organizations serving marginalized populations, with emphasis on increasing access to care rooted harm reduction. His past professional roles have included vice president of clinical operations, program director, team leader and homeless outreach worker. He served as lead clinician for a number of research studies affiliated with Thresholds, a large mental health organization in Chicago, and Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center, Dartmouth College.
Also, Tim is a lecturer at the University of Chicago, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice, has served as Senior Instructor at the Adler University, Chicago and Online Campuses, is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, and volunteer board member for Edna’s Circle, a start-up low-barrier recovery housing and support program on the West Side of Chicago, and Serenity Academy of Chicago, a non-profit 501(c)(3) committed to developing Alternative Peer Groups for teens and a recovery high school in Chicago.
Tim is the proud recipient of the 2022 William L. White Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Association of Addiction Professionals, Illinois Chapter of the National Association for Addiction Professionals.
